A multilingual site: how to do it right (without hurting SEO)
Expanding to Poland or the EU needs a site in several languages. Done carelessly, it hurts SEO. We explain how to do it right.
If you work with Ukraine and Poland — or expand to the EU — a single-language site limits you. A client searches in their language and trusts what they read in their own. But multilingualism is easy to build in a way that confuses Google and drops rankings.
The key rule: hreflang
Each language version of a page must be a separate URL, and the languages linked with hreflang markup. That's how Google understands these aren't duplicates but versions for different languages, and shows the right one to the right person. Without it, language versions compete with each other.
What not to do
Don't rely on plugin auto-translation — Google dislikes it and clients feel machine text. Don't mix languages on one page. Don't translate only via a parameter without separate URLs. Each language is a full version, not a «translate button».
Service: Websites — we build it turnkey→How we do it
The radobo site itself is built in four languages (Ukrainian, English, Polish, Spanish) with proper hreflang and separate URLs — so we build multilingual sites not in theory. We lay in the correct structure and localize not just text but SEO for each market.
